Brian King’s recent book, Letters to My Friends in Pain, offers the following observation:

“Changing our thinking is hard, but not changing our thinking is harder.” (p. 126). If you have ever struggled with any kind of pain – physical, emotional, spiritual – then this book might be just what you need. Brian writes with a pastor’s heart, and he writes as one who is faimliar with pain which he describes vividly in the opening section.

Most of the book is a collection of letters written addressing specific challenges that often bring pain. There are letters to friends experiencing the pain of grief, mourning, exhaustion, and disappointment to name a few. . There are letters to friends who are suffering with physical pain such as neuropathy.

The letters are separated into 5 mindset changes that God can work in our lives as we cooperate with Him. Relying on the works of pain specialists and experts in trauma informed care, these mindset changes can empower us to live productively – even in pain.

Reading the book will not eliminate pain. Rather, reading the book may very well give you some tools you can use to ‘change your thinking.’
