PREPARING FOR THE LORD’S SUPPER

Join us as we prepare for the Lord’s Supper on JANUARY 4, 2026

Sunday December 28, 2025

“The Word became flesh and took up residence among us. We observed His glory, the glory as the One and Only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14, HCSB)

Read John 1:1-18

Next Sunday as we take the bread and juice we are physically reminding ourselves of His real presence among us. No, the bread and juice do not ‘become’ Jesus. Rather we taste the bread and the cup and, for a moment, we can experience a foretaste of His eternal presence (see Matthew 26:30). Begin today to anticipate the moments we can spend together in worship next Sunday.

Monday December 29, 2025

For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile everything to Himself by making peace through the blood of His cross — whether things on earth or things in heaven.” (Colossians 1:19–20, HCSB)

Read Colossians 1:15-20

When we take the bread and juice next Sunday we are might ask the same questions some of those first disciples may have secretly wondered about. Can One man truly bear my sin and that of the entire world? Can One man’s blood cover the immensity of the sin accumulated since the beginning of time?

Tuesday December 30, 2025

He was in the world, and the world was created through Him, yet the world did not recognize Him.” (John 1:10, HCSB)

Read John 1:9-11 and John 6:59-69.

Sometimes what Jesus said and did is confusing. How can we ‘take’ His flesh? Drink His blood? (see John 6:56). The first observance of the Lord’s Supper (see Matthew 26:26-30) marks the beginning of the end of Jesus’ life as a man. Soon after the meal He was betrayed, arrested, tried, crucified and buried. Only later did any of His followers fully grasp what Peter says: “Lord, who will we go to? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and know that You are the Holy One of God!”” (John 6:68–69, HCSB). As you prepare for Sunday make certain you believe and know that Jesus is the Holy One of God!

Wednesday December 31, 2025

“Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Your heart must not be troubled or fearful.” (John 14:27, HCSB)

            Read Philippians 4:6-7.

As Jesus died the earth quaked, tombs opened (see Matthew 27:52-53) and the veil in the Temple was torn in two – from the top to the bottom. Now, God is fully accessible to all. Because of Jesus’ death and subsequent resurrection, you and I can know a peace that passes all understanding. Sunday when we observe the Lord’s Supper be prepared to release your anxieties on Him and receive His peace.

Thursday January 1, 2026

Then He took a cup, and after giving thanks, He gave it to them and said, “Drink from it, all of you. For this is My blood that establishes the covenant; it is shed for many for the forgiveness of sins.” (Matthew 26:27–28, HCSB)

            Read Isaiah 53:2-5, 8-12.

Hundreds of years prior to the birth of Jesus Isaiah spoke of Him. The Lord’s Supper that we observe over 2,000 years after Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection brings us all we need for the life God for which God created us. As we take the bread and cup be prepared to receive all God has for you!

Friday January 2, 2026

A thief comes only to steal and to kill and to destroy. I have come so that they may have life and have it in abundance.” (John 10:10, HCSB)

            Read John 10:1-10

“The sheep will follow [their shepherd] because they know his voice…” (vs 4). How does God speak to you? Every time you open the Bible to read it, God is speaking. Do you know His voice? As we prepare to observe the Lord’s Supper this Sunday, is there something God has been speaking to you about? Ask God to speak clearly and directly as we share around the Lord’s Table, acknowledging His care for us as the Good Shepherd.

Saturday, Jan 3, 2026

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” (John 14:3, NKJV)

            Read John 14:1-7

After the dinner Jesus had some hard words for His followers. He was leaving. They were shocked. They had not anticipated Jesus leaving them. The Messiah was supposed to stay and drive out the Romans and establish the Kingdom of God as it was under King David. How could Jesus be the Messiah if He was leaving?

They had misunderstood much of what Jesus taught. As we observe the Lord’s Supper tomorrow during worship hold you don’t have to understand all Jesus teaches. But hold on to this: He is coming again! Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus!
