OUR MISSION: God’s Word Transforming Our World
VISION: We are seeking to become fully formed followers of Jesus, who live intentionally, seeking to share Jesus and invite others to join us in becoming fully formed followers of Jesus.
We are well on the way to seeing a new building on our church grounds. Two different non-profits are working together to build a dual purpose building: A permanent home for the Dillard-Winston Food Bank and the Winston Teen Center. There are still numerous details to work through, but progress is being made.
Some have wondered, “WHY?” Why would we use church property for non-church purposes?
Building on research I did over 15 years ago, let me suggest some answers:
A church, however one defines it, cannot be separated from the community in which it located. In 1998 George Barna wrote,
Within the next few years America will experience one of two outcomes: either massive spiritual revival or moral anarchy…at this present moment of optimum opportunity Christianity is having less impact on people’s perspectives and behaviors than ever.

After twenty-five years, spiritual revival has yet to occur, but moral anarchy seems poised to take over the world!
It is my firm conviction that churches can intentionally serve and connect with their community. This new building is one way we as a people of God can connect.
““You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt should lose its taste, how can it be made salty? It’s no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled on by men. “You are the light of the world. A city situated on a hill cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket, but rather on a lampstand, and it gives light for all who are in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:13–16, HCSB)
The ’you’ Jesus uses is not just for individuals. We are the ‘you’ Jesus calls to be salt and light. Using our property makes sense as we desire to see all of our resources offered to the community.
Intentionally engaging our community means praying for the needs. However, prayer leads to action. As we have been praying for our community over the past decades, this is an action step that puts feet to our prayers.
